Privacy Policy

Care & Cure Institute (“Care & Cure,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website careandcure.org (the “Site”). We are a nonprofit organization funding fellowships for pediatric epileptologists. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Site, how we use it, whom we share it with, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
Information you give us
When you contact us, subscribe to our newsletter, submit a Letter of Care, or make a donation through the Site, we collect the information you provide, which may include your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, and the details of your message or gift. If you make a donation, the transaction is processed by the payment providers described below; we do not store your full card number on our servers.
Information collected automatically
Our web server keeps standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps) for security and troubleshooting. Beyond that, the Site sets no analytics or advertising cookies unless you consent to them through our cookie banner, as described in the next section.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
On your first visit, a consent banner asks whether we may use optional cookies. The banner stays visible until you make a choice, and nothing in the optional categories loads before you opt in:
- Strictly necessary. Required for the Site to function and stay secure: the website platform (WordPress and Elementor), the cookie-consent tool itself (which records your choice), login security and its spam protection (Google reCAPTCHA), the embedded tools that process donations, and the widgets that display our charity transparency ratings. These are always active.
- Marketing & measurement. Google Tag Manager — which delivers Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads conversion measurement — and Mailchimp’s connected-site tools, which measure the reach of our email communications. These load only after you opt in.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in the footer of every page, which reopens the consent preferences. We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal: if your browser sends it, opt-out is applied automatically.
Analytics and Advertising Measurement
With your consent, we use Google Tag Manager (Google LLC) to load Google Analytics 4, which compiles aggregate statistics about how the Site is used — pages visited, approximate location at city level, device type, and how visitors arrive at the Site — and Google Ads conversion measurement, which helps us understand whether our advertising leads to visits and donations. Under some state privacy laws this kind of measurement can be considered “sharing” personal information; the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in our footer lets you opt out at any time. Email Communications
Our newsletter and email updates are managed through Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.). With your consent, Mailchimp’s connected-site script may set cookies that help us understand whether our emails lead to visits to the Site. You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link in any message. Mailchimp’s handling of data is described in the Intuit Privacy Statement. Under some state privacy laws this kind of measurement can be considered “sharing” personal information; the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in our footer lets you opt out at any time.
Donations
Online giving is processed by GoFundMe Pro (formerly Classy) and, for some campaigns, by Every.org. These providers receive the information needed to process your gift (name, contact details, payment information) and handle it under their own privacy policies: GoFundMe, Every.org. Our donation pages may also display transparency information from GuideStar / Candid. We do not store your full payment card number on our servers.
Other Service Providers
We use a small number of additional providers to operate the Site: our hosting provider and email delivery services for messages the Site sends (for example, form confirmations). We share personal information with service providers only so they can perform services for us, and we do not sell your personal information for money. The Site also links to our profiles on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube; those sites operate under their own privacy policies.
Children’s Privacy
The Site is directed to adults — donors, families, and medical professionals — not to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the Site. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the Site, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising. You can exercise the advertising opt-out at any time with the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in the footer, or automatically via the Global Privacy Control signal. For any other request, contact us using the details below; we will verify your request and respond as required by applicable law. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising a privacy right.
Data Retention and Security
We keep form submissions and correspondence for as long as we need them for the purpose they were provided (for example, the period required for donation records), and consent records for as long as the law requires. We use appropriate technical and organizational safeguards — including HTTPS across the Site, limited administrative access, login protection, and spam filtering — but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page, and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice on the Site.
